Works perfectly
Worked perfectly right out of the box on iMac Pro 2017 running High Sierra Mac OS 10.13

Good range, small size and easy to use after forcing driver update in Windows 10.
Did not work on Windows 10 straight away but after doing a driver update (within Device Manager) it works great. I only use it to listen to music and netcasts/podcasts via Bluetooth headphones. The range is pretty good, I can get to the back door of my house or outside the garage in the other direction before it breaks up, so pretty much covers my entire 1,300 square foot house.

Great USB dongle... skip the included software.
The USB dongle works great with windows 10. The software that came with it not so much. I had to uninstall it and use windows default bluetooth connectivity software in order to use bass boost and surround simulation on my Bluetooth headset. I can use it anywhere in my house walls or not with no skipping or breaking up from my headset sound.

It works with Mac mini 2018
My Mac mini 2018 had issue with mouse lagging. Especially when I am downloading and uploading large files, the lagging came to a point where my Apple Magic Wireless Mouse is unusable. This is due internal WiFi chip is interfere with internal Bluetooth chip. My guts feeling is that internal WiFi chip and Bluetooth chip are a one combo chip. When Wifi is heavily used, MacOS reduces internal performance to prevent the chip overheating and melting which it actually happened to my Dell Alienware compact PC. By adding this external Bluetooth USB, it solves the mouse lagging issue. The is Bluetooth USB will override and disable internal bluetooth. So you will need to turn off-and-on on both Apple keyboard and mouse in order for the new Bluetooth USB to discover them. You will need also to shut down your Mac first, plug this Bluetooth USB in and then start up your Mac.

CSR Bluetooth Chipset is JUNK on Windows 10!!
Windows 10 issues!!! DO NOT BUY THIS if you're using Windows 10!! Downloaded the latest CSR Harmony software off the StarTech website... why is this package over 200MB??? All that is needed is a driver not all this junk software which doesn't even work on Windows 10. The Harmony Bluetooth software detected about ~40 Bluetooth devices, however it didn't list descriptions for any of them. I live in an apartment building so there are a ton of Bluetooth signals going around. All the detected items only showed what appears to be MAC Addresses. I tried to connect to a few of these, but all attempts failed. I wasn't about to sit there trying every detected device if it doesn't show descriptions. Trying to stop the scanning and rescan would have it display nothing at all. I'd have to reboot to restore scanning functionality, but still it same issue as before. The only time this USB adapter actually worked is after I ran the uninstall and somehow the CSR driver stayed loaded. At this point the built-in Windows 10 Bluetooth features took over and suddenly it would sync with Xbox Bluetooth Controller. No surprise the built-in Windows features worked, but the bundled software which disables the Windows features is utterly broken. Avoid any Bluetooth adapters that use the CSR chipset, it's a piece of junk!!

Good product, needs more supporting documentation
I use a Mac. This unit did not work as promised in the manual as a plug and play device. You can imagine the problem: how would a computer know which Bluetooth receiver to prioritize, the computer or the dongle? The answer was easy once I called Tech Support, and they were helfpul. I had to enter a Terminal command to set this device as the preferred Bluetooth device, and then I had to zap the PRAM on my computer, then it worked just great. I little more support and instructions for users either online or in the manual and the product which seems, now, to work as advertised, would have receive more stars.

Works great with Linux
Works great with Linux. As of Janaury 4, 2025, I'm using the latest version of Fedora Linux, and it was plug and play baiscally. Picked it up instantly and paired my bluetooth headphones with no issue.

Vanilla Linux Kernel Class 1 USB Bluetooth Adapter
This is a vanilla Linux kernel supported class 1 Bluetooth USB adapter, using the Linux kernel's vanilla btusb.ko module/driver. Install the net-wireless/bluez package according to your Linux distribution's instructions. The following will immediately activate Bluetooth feature and initiate scanning, providing RSSI dBm signal strength of the remote (portable) Bluetooth devices. # modprobe cfg80211 rfkill bluetooth btusb # /etc/init.d/bluetooth start # bluetoothctl [bluetooth]# scan on Can also within another terminal run "btmon" during performing the above steps, for providing more debug information with the portable/remote Bluetooth devices. If you just want to connect to other Bluetooth device, ignoring the above: # /etc/init.d/bluetooth start $ blueman-manager (May require restarting blueman-manager if the USB Bluetooth adapters were not previously powered on. Shrugs) PROS 1) At least 50 feet line of site ability to connect with wireless portable/remote Bluetooth devices. -90 dBm with the portable device approximately 50 feet within line of sight of this Bluetooth USB adapter. -74 dBm with the portable device sitting right next to this Bluetooth USB adapter. CONS 1) Manufacturer specification state 50 meters (~164 feet) ability, and I sincerely think this is a misprint! I know how to readily walk-off 50 feet, and the fact this is the same number mentioned but as meters within the specifications, seems to clearly indicate a misprint. Granted, maybe just limited by the internal antenna of the USB Bluetooth adapter.

It works well better than my asus bluetooth dongle that broke after a few months. Range is good but if you're expecting to get 50 meters distances through walls trees and other crap you deserve to be disappointed. It's 50m light on sight not though objects... jesus. I could make it 15-20 m up the back on though walls and heavy tree coverage before it got choppy. Compare to my previous 20m dongle it goes further.

Purchased this product as a way to add Bluetooth to my Hackintosh computer. Both MacOS and Windows 10 automatically picked it up and pairing for my wireless mouse, AirPods, and wireless Beats were all flawless. Range-wise, it seemed to be the same as the Bluetooth in my Macbook Pro and my iPhone, so this is as good as it gets in my opinion. Just make sure you get the Class 1 adapter and not the Class 2. The latter is slower and has a much shorter range, hence the cheaper price. From reading other reviews, it seems like StarTech has excellent customer support if the need arises, so I'm quite happy overall knowing that on the off-chance that this adapter bites the dust, the manufacturer has me covered.
